Nightmare in the House of Wax

One of the best values near Fort Worth and Arlington is the Mead Manor/House of Wax/Temple of Anubis complex. There are three independently owned haunted attractions all sharing one plat of land. You will find tarot card readers, drinks, and eats at this collection of great haunted houses. I am a big believer in the combo tickets at almost all haunts, and this one is no exception. You could pay 10 dollars per attraction, or pay $24 and get into all three. With the combo ticket, you also get 10 percent off concessions and souvenirs.

This haunted attraction is my favorite on the Fort Worth side of the metroplex. There is such an amazing amount of detail and work put into this attraction that it really requires more than one trip through to experience and see all of it. This is one attraction that has a guide walk you through and explain things to you. Very fun, very scary, and incredibly horrific at times.

The concept behind the haunt is pretty self explanatory. There are wax figures in each scene and you begin to realize that they are more than just wax. There are some chilling effects done with props and actors, but I don't want spoil any of it for you. When you go through this attraction, take time to notice the incredible detail and many of the props that are not fake. There are plenty of actual used coffins in the haunt. Used coffins? Yes. These are coffins that were rented out to families of loved ones that had passed away for the viewing of the body. Since the don't actually cremate the nice coffins, they can be used and rented out many times. In a behind the scenes tour, we were shown the inside of the coffins where you can actually see the embalming fluid from all of the bodies that were temporarily in each coffin. Let me just say that this is ridiculously creepy. It gets worse. The haunt also has coffins for children. Now that is really scary.

Still, even worse, this is the only haunted attraction I have ever heard of that has actual human remains. Yes, you just read right, there are human remains. If you are brave enough, ask the owner to show you where they are.

There is also used embalming equipment, used autopsy tables (complete with hair from a cadaver stuck in the wheel and blood stains), and what is called a draining table. The draining table uses gravity to remove all the blood out of the body and was used before the days of embalming machines.

So, what do you get when you have a haunted attraction that is incredibly detailed, very scary, and has actual real and creepy once used mortuary equipment not to mention actual human remains? You get one of the best haunted attractions for your money.

After hearing about the place, one of the reviewers mentioned that if any place should be haunted, it should be there. Well, while it turns out that it is.

While we were there, a team of paranormal investigators were setting up for an investigation after hours. They are called S.P.I.R.I.T. and they had some pretty fancy equipment. The ghost hunters found several things. They caught a baby crying in one of the rooms with a baby coffin, and this was without any of the haunts audio on. There were also plenty of orbs to be seen. Something that should be pointed out about the attraction is that it is made of old mobile homes put together. The mobile homes have all been lived and have had people perish while inside of them. That added with all of the real coffins and mortuary equipment probably equates to a lot of ghost activity. I strongly encourage you to check out this haunt park. It is a great price, and I guarantee a great time!
